Planning staff's primary function is the preparation and implementation of the city's Comprehensive Plan, which provides a long-range plan for all development and operations of the city and carries out the vision for the community's future. Staff advises the Planning and Zoning Board and City Council on all planning and land use issues. They oversee all land use, transportation, zoning amendments, and capital improvements that would affect the implementation of the plan. Staff reviews plats and other land subdivisions, site plans for commercial and industrial buildings, rezoning requests, variances, conditional use permits, and other land use issues.
