Scarecrow Crawl
October TBD 2026
Come decorate a scarecrow for your chance to win a prize! Participants will make a scarecrow and place it along the path at The Rookery where members and visitors can vote on their favorite scarecrow.
This event is FREE and open to the public. Local businesses and organizations welcome!
We will provide the poles for the scarecrows to anchor the scarecrows to the ground. We will also have wooden frames available on a first come, first serve basis.
To reserve a frame, please email Angie at AThorson@LinoLakes.us.
- Build a Frame: A simple “t” shape works great and can be made with wood, pvc, or whatever you have laying around.
- Form the body: Create a head, arms, and legs using old clothes, fabric, and accessories. Use straw or old plastic bags to stuff your scarecrow. Hint: a foam pumpkin is an easy way to make a head, or stuff and old pillowcase!
- Decorate: Pick a theme! Give your scarecrow eyes made from buttons, sew patches on from scrap fabric, add a hat, or whatever makes your scarecrow fun and unique.
- No scarecrow security: Scarecrows will be left unattended outside. Do not leave valuable items!
- Make them hearty: The scarecrows will be left outdoors and will be subjected to the elements. Plan to make them sturdy enough to stand up to rain and wind.
- Clean up: You are responsible for the clean up and removal of your scarecrow after the contest ends.
